SOURCE & PROCESS REFERENCE · ZÀGRO NATURAL

Sustainability and Climate-Resilient Crops.

What we can say — and what we will not.

Sustainability is a word used so broadly in food marketing that it has become difficult to attach specific meaning to. Zàgro does not use the word as a brand claim. This page describes, in plain terms, what is observable about the sourcing and production methods Zàgro uses — and nothing more.

No carbon claims. No greenwashing language. No certifications that have not been obtained. Only what is visible and verifiable at source.

Small-batch, low-industrial-input production.

The A2 Bilona ghee Zàgro sources is produced by a method that, by its nature, is low-input and small-batch. A single Khillar cow with a daily yield of 350–400ml produces approximately 5–7 kilograms of ghee annually. There is no industrial scaling in this supply chain because the biology of the animal does not permit it.

The jaggery Zàgro sources is produced through open-pan reduction of fresh sugarcane juice by small producers in the Sangli district. This method requires manual labour, direct heat, and attention to the consistency of the product at each stage. It cannot be fully automated without changing the method entirely.

These are not sustainability strategies. They are the natural outputs of sourcing from small, named producers using traditional methods. The low-input character of the production is a consequence of how the supply chain is built — not a claim imposed on top of it.

Known farmers. Known land.

Zàgro sources from approximately 200 individual farmers, 80–90% concentrated in the Sangli district of Maharashtra. The founder knows these producers personally. This is not a marketing statement — it is a structural fact about how the brand was built.

Direct farmer relationships mean that land management practices, input use, and water management are observable rather than assumed. Zàgro does not make claims about the environmental practices of its farmers beyond what has been directly observed. When specific practices are documented, they will be published here.

What comes next.

As Zàgro's supply chain formalises — with written supplier agreements, batch documentation, and third-party verification — environmental practice data will become part of the sourcing record.

When that data exists and is verified, it will be published on this page. Until then, this page states what is known and nothing more.

Zàgro Natural sources from named farmers in the Sangli district, Maharashtra, known personally to the founder. We do not make environmental or sustainability claims beyond what is directly observable in our supply chain. As documentation improves, this page will be updated.
